Discover how climate change is not just an environmental crisis, but a pressing threat to global human health, as unveiled in Enviromedics: The Impact of Climate Change on Human Health. Enviromedics: The Impact of Climate Change on Human Health, by Day Lemery, MD and Paul Auerbach, MD is an essential read for anyone researching or concerned about climate change. This book continues to be a cornerstone in my climate change research; I still reference it frequently.
Overview
The authors are doctors whose positions have given them a front seat view of our evolving health. after noticing significant increases in certain health conditions, they began to research the cause. Once it was discovered that these conditions were being worsened by the effects of climate change.
Through detailed case studies, personal anecdotes, and scientific analysis, Enviromedics explores how rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and other climate-related changes are already affecting global health. From the spread of infectious diseases to the mental health impacts of climate disasters, the book covers a wide array of topics that highlight the urgent need for action.
Positive
This book has been crafted to bridge the gap between environmental science and medical science What sets this book apart is its blend of robust evidence and clear, accessible explanations. Each concept is not only backed by scientific data but is also presented in a way that is easily understandable to both experts and everyday people alike.
Negative
Being that it is written for a broad audience, you can tell some topics were left less analyzed. For individuals in the fields (environmental and medical science) wanting in-depth coverage may not be satisfied with this book.
Recommendation
This book is an easy 5 for me. I have already reread (technically listened again since I have it on audiobook) twice. Enviromedics is not just a book but a vital resource that offers a comprehensive understanding of how our changing environment is shaping human health. Its evidence-based approach and clear explanations make it an invaluable tool for researchers, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in the health implications of climate change.
