Mate Hunt Series by Lola Glass

While most paranormal series often fall into the same predictable formula, each Mate Hunt story somehow stands out on their own. I have a few theories on how Lola Glass was able to pull this off. Dive into a world where the supernatural isn't just a backdrop, but an integral and enthralling part of the story, setting the series apart from the rest.

Lola Glass's Mate Hunt series is a captivating and imaginative dive into the realm of fantasy, romance, and self-discovery. With each book featuring a unique plot and a diverse cast of female protagonists, this series stands out not only for its enthralling storytelling but also for its celebration of different backgrounds. Glass weaves together romance, humor, and adventure in a way that keeps readers hooked while also fostering a sense of representation and inclusivity.

Unique Story

We are introduced to the concept of the Mate Hunt. In this series, when a Werewolf looks at his fated mate, he turns and is stuck in wolf form until his mate turns into a wolf...or dies. While the series explores the central theme of "mate hunt" in a fantastical universe, each book offers unique characters and backgrounds that stand out on its own. Glass excels at ensuring that no two books feel repetitive. Here's a quick look at how each installment shines:

Book 1:   Thrown to the Wolves

Teagan, who prefers to go by T, is kidnapped after Jesse recognizes her as his mate. She's a strong independent woman, who has to adjust to this new reality and still make it to class.

Book 2:   Taken by the Pack

Ebony, who is T's former roommate, confronts T about the possibility that Jesse is a werewolf! But before the truth can be explained, Ford recognizes her as his mate! It turns out, he might be the perfect man (or werewolf) for her.

Book 3:   Trapped with the Werewolf

Del just finished her last college exam when she is invited to a cookout. Things don't go as planned once she meets Rocco, but since when has it ever for Del?

Book 4:   Tracked by the Beast

As June rushes to make sure her BFF isn't making the worst mistake of her life. Next thing she knows she is being chased around the country by a werewolf named Zed!

Book 5:   Tested by the Alpha

Elizabeth is doing everything she can to provide for her son since she escaped her abusive alpha ex. That includes her third job as a delivery driver. This delivery doesn't go as planned when Elliot answers the door.

Book 6:   Tempted by the Wolf

Sab dreamed about an insta-love werewolf romance like the ones she reads about in her books. Unfortunately, that's not what she got with Dax.

Book 7:   Tolerated by the Sigma

Charly has spent years surrounded by werewolves. She thought she knew what she would be getting into. Unfortunately (or fortunately), Ryder isn't your typical werewolf.

Each book delivers a different emotional experience while maintaining the overarching themes of love, fate, and personal growth. Glass has a knack for blending humor and heartache, making her stories as entertaining as they are poignant. Her descriptive writing brings the magical world to life, and her dialogue is sharp and engaging.

Diversity in Protagonists: A Refreshing Change

One of the most remarkable aspects of The Mate Hunt series is its commitment to diversity. Each book features a female protagonist from a different ethnicity, wealth, education, and general lifestyle, bringing a refreshing layer of cultural richness and authenticity to the stories. This diversity adds depth to the characters and makes their personal journeys feel more relatable for readers from various walks of life.

For example, the protagonists' unique backgrounds influence their perspectives, personalities, and even how they navigate the challenges of the magical worlds they inhabit. By showcasing strong, complex women from different backgrounds, Glass not only enriches the narrative but also reflects the multifaceted nature of her audience.

What I didn't like

The start of the mate hunt is concerning, these women are basically abducted until they make their choice. And it's not an easy choice, either you become a werewolf and possibly die in the process) or this man goes insane and dies. But it's how this world works.

Why This Series Matters

While earning my bachelor's in business I spent a lot of time researching and learning about DEI. One of the benefits of ensuring you have a diverse team is that you get more unique ideas. Just like this series shows, when individuals have different backgrounds, their perspectives, beliefs and experiences are going to be varied resulting in a very unique story.

The Mate Hunt series isn't just a collection of romantic fantasy novels—it's a celebration of diversity and individuality. By featuring protagonists with different backgrounds, Glass broadens the scope of representation in the fantasy genre, encouraging readers to see themselves in these powerful, flawed, and relatable characters. This inclusivity elevates the series beyond escapism, making it a meaningful and impactful read.

Lola Glass's Mate Hunt series is a must-read for fans of fantasy romance who crave strong, diverse heroines and captivating plots. Each story offers something new, ensuring that the series never feels formulaic. Whether you're in it for the romance, the magic, or the representation, this series delivers on every front. 5 Stars, highly recommended!

Have you read the series? What was your favorite book? If you didn't like it, what was it that ruined it for you?

I Accidently Summoned a Demon Boyfriend

Who else is celebrating National Single Awareness Day this Saturday? Well, Rayna had the bright idea one Saturday night after her friends stood her up for their boyfriends to conjure up her own hottie. So, she gathered up her lavender-scented candle, jasmine oil, sandalwood oil, and patchouli oil. She then applied the oils under moonlight and did her incantation. It was just a lonely, drunk woman whim...oops! Next thing she knows there is a horned purple demon in her room! They share an unbelievable (literally, she thought it was all a dream) night together. Come morning she sends him on his way so she can return to her boring life. Unfortunately, the universe had other plans.  I loved the rom com feel of the story. I don't encounter that a lot in sci-fi romance and romantasy. The female lead is also a black woman, and I love seeing the diversity. I don't know if it's just me, but I don't find a lot of black female characters in sci-fi and fantasy romances. It's act...
