Conquered World Series

I quit reading after about the sixth book, but about four months later, I constantly wondered how it ended, so I went back to find out. Conquered World Series, by Elin Wyn is an 18-book science fiction romance series. Each book features a new alien warrior and human woman, except one that features the first couple again. Technically, each can be read standalone.

Overview

There is a battle going on in space. Things go very wrong, and a portal opens, three ships are pulled through the portal and crash land into an unknown world.
  • Vrehx: Vrehx's ship literally crashes into Geneva's world. He brings new monsters into an already dangerous world. They need to work together to handle both.
  • Axtin: They couldn't be more different. Leena is a strong, serious scientist Axtin is a warrior who loves the thrill of battle. How can they be expected to work together?
  • Tu'ver: Mariella doesn't have time for romance. No, really, she's going to die young. So she might as well avoid all long-term commitment. Tu'ver has a duty, but this human is doing something to him.
  • Sakev: Dr. Evangeline Pan is trying to rebuild her life. She took on the responsibility of establishing a new clinic. Sakev is the worst patient. In fact, he is a snarky smart ass! But he has her back, and right now she needs that most.
  • Daxion: Amina is pissed with the hand life dealt her. She's done with everybody. But Daxion doesn't mind. He'll do all he can to keep her safe and happy.
  • Rouhr: General Rouhr has more responsibility than he ever expected. Cut off from the rest of his people, decisions fall on him. Vidia, a leader of her own people, knows his duty comes first, but still finds herself wishing.
  • Karzin: Annie is holding her family together; she has to remain focused. When she has to investigate a weird seismic event, she is assigned Karin as a guard. He also has his own priorities, or he did, until he met her.
  • Rokul: Dr. Telle Brian doesn't want to be tied down to a desk job; she likes her field work. Rokul is assigned to protect her on her job. The sparks fly!
  • Sylor: Nesta is a tunnel dweller; she's lived in the rough underground society all her life. When her criminal behavior causes her to cross paths with Sylor, they butt heads. Order loving Sylor is surprised to find he is actually attracted to her.
  • Iq'her: Stasia is trying desperately to keep her alien-hating brother out of trouble. When Iq'her shows up to infiltrate their group, she finds an ally. Now to keep him alive.
  • Takar: Daphne is like a hound dog following a scent. Nothing will stop her from solving this mystery. So, when Takar shows up to retrieve her, she's pissed. Luckily, fate is on her side and throws in another curve ball.
  • Vhrex's Quest: The OC! They are back and growing! The first hybrid baby, so many unknowns!
  • Zarik: Miri doesn't remember anything; she just came to in the forest. Zarik volunteered to assist her in regaining her memories as redemption for past wrongs. But soon, he's not sure if it's about redemption or just making her happy again.
  • Sk'lar: Phryne is a tough bitch! She is all about independence and simplicity. Sk'lar is ready to help her and prove he will always be there for her. Soon, he gets his chance
  • Jalok: Dottie loves her quiet life. Everything in its place and a new best friend who happens to be some kind of supernatural entity. She gets assigned the worst guard ever, Jalok. He's got some anger issues and loves violence, but he finds that he loves her too.
  • Tyehn: Tyehn is known for his self-control. How is he supposed to work with this wild human, Maki, who threatens that self-control.
  • Cazak: Sibyl is a socialite who has finally felt the need to find her purpose. It finds her when her father becomes possessed. Cazak reports to duty to help her while her world crumbles around her.
  • Navat: Alessa is a workaholic; she's used to challenging and commanding men. She clashes with her alien guard Navat. But sometimes the universe has a sense of humor.
  • Salok: Salok is a scientist with a crush on the human pilot Teisha. She doesn't know it yet, but as the war wages on, he must come to her rescue.

Positives

Each book is good on its own, but it's the overall plot that I loved. It is a unique world she has created. There are multiple species and advanced technology. The mysteries are complex to the point that the author could write a new series based on them.
The romance of each pair is unique to them. The characters are well developed. All books are guaranteed happy endings. I didn't find any of the main characters disagreeable (maybe I should lay off the Jane Austen). The men were all kind and honorable, the women strong heroines.

Negatives

If more work was put into the overarching plot, it would easily be a 5 star. I understand this was probably intentional because the author wanted the books to be able to be stand-alone. But the uniqueness of that overarching plot could have been so much more fulfilling. Maybe we will get a follow-up series?

Recommendations

There is an overarching plot; that is what really brought me back to finish the series, so I suggest reading in order. Some of the individual plots were forgettable, great for light reading but not exciting. My favorite stories were Vhrex, Rouhr, Daxion and Jalok. These all get 4 stars, and the rest get 3 stars. Overall, I would have given a 3, but considering that the overarching plot was unforgettable, that brought it up to a 4 star.

The Ego System The Awakening by Rene Zografos

I'll never look at a steak the same way again. René Zografos' The Ego System: The Awakening , is a compelling and urgent call to action that discusses the devastating impact of the meat industry on the planet. The author provides many facts, case studies, and other references to prove their point.  As someone who is already practicing no-meat days to live sustainably, I thought this would be a light read. I was wrong. Zografos provides eye-opening insights into the hidden suffering of animals and the political inaction that allows these practices to continue. It definitely has me considering a fully vegan lifestyle.  Trigger warning: René Zografos provides explicit descriptions of their research into animal cruelty cases. The Positives The book is filled with compelling anecdotes and case studies that illustrate the real-world consequences of our dietary choices. The argument is clear and persuasive. There is an emotional appeal that really triggers the desire ...

Mate Hunt Series by Lola Glass

While most paranormal series often fall into the same predictable formula, each Mate Hunt story somehow stands out on their own. I have a few theories on how Lola Glass was able to pull this off. Dive into a world where the supernatural isn't just a backdrop, but an integral and enthralling part of the story, setting the series apart from the rest. Lola Glass's Mate Hunt series is a captivating and imaginative dive into the realm of fantasy, romance, and self-discovery. With each book featuring a unique plot and a diverse cast of female protagonists, this series stands out not only for its enthralling storytelling but also for its celebration of different backgrounds. Glass weaves together romance, humor, and adventure in a way that keeps readers hooked while also fostering a sense of representation and inclusivity. Unique Story We are introduced to the concept of the Mate Hunt. In this series, when a Werewolf looks at his fated mate, he turns and is stuck in wolf form until hi...

Muse: The Magnetism of Women Who Stop Abandoning Themselves by Dr Amanda Hanson

Dr. Amanda Hanson's Muse: The Magnetism of Women Who Stop Abandoning Themselves  is supposed to be a transformative and inspiring book that encourages women to reclaim their true selves and embrace their inherent power.  Unfortunately, that does not line up with the book I just read. The book does dive into the historical and societal structures that have kept women confined to roles defined by patriarchal norms. Dr. Hanson challenges these norms and offers practical rituals and practices to help women reconnect with their inner Muse and build authentic and fulfilling lives.  Where I would have really dissected how to overcome the limitations the patriarchy has placed on women and how to combat it for future women, Dr. Hanson goes on tangents about not putting poisons in our body and how Western medicine was created by men, therefore it's harmful to women. I understand her sentiment that "our bodies know best". However, from personal experience, that is not always the...
